Refurbished laptops will revolutionise learning experiences for the students of Colaiste Eoin in Finglas
Ergo has donated 70 refurbished laptops to teachers in Colaiste Eoin, the Dublin school that Ergo CEO John Purdy had attended, which he attributes to giving him a great start in life. The initiative comes at a time when the Covid lockdown and home schooling highlighted the importance of technology in secondary education, enabling pupils and teachers to go online.
John Purdy commented, “My educational experiences at Colaiste Eoin were formative for me as I know they will be for current pupils. We have to ensure that everyone in every school has equal opportunities to learn. Today, that means having access to technology.”
Paula O’Brien, principal in Colaiste Eoin said, “The kindness Ergo has displayed will transform how my students get an education. Ergo’s approach is not only thoughtful but also a sustainable way to pass on devices once they are no longer needed within the company.”
Colaiste Eoin is a DEIS school in Finglas, part of the secondary education system that suffers most from the digital divide, according to research by Trinity College, which found that between 50-70 percent of students in DEIS schools experience a lack of access to broadband or a suitable learning device.
The refurbished laptops will be supported through Ergo’s Device as a Service programme, which wraps an end-to-end managed service around hardware, ensuring devices are always up to date and secure.
