Ergo Joins V-Alliance for Virtual Desktop Delivery
As an accredited partner of Microsoft and Citrix, Ergo deploys the fruits of the V-Alliance, a partnership between the two vendors focused on delivering the next wave of virtualisation. The virtual desktop is also seen as a significant next step in cloud computing, where customers move from having to make heavy capital investments to running IT as an operational cost out of a central location.
John Purdy, Chief Executive Officer of Ergo, said, “In the current economic climate, a lot of companies don’t have the budget to refresh their desktops and are being forced to sweat their assets longer than they would like. Now there is a new way to do it that saves money and increases efficiency.”
Martin Cullen, Director for Small and Midmarket Solutions & Partners at Microsoft Ireland, said, “The virtual desktop has been talked about for many years but only now has it started to become a reality in terms of practical execution for customers. Ergo is a major player for our business and we are delighted they have come on-board with a compelling proposition that will have a big impact on the Irish market.”
Ergo has set up a dedicated V-Alliance team with engineers that have undergone extensive training to help customers realise the full potential of Microsoft and Citrix products. “It’s a winning combination,” said John Purdy. “A Microsoft Hyper-V platform running Citrix XenDesktop allows an organisation to deliver a virtual desktop and applications to any user, anywhere, at any time.”

James Stevenson, area vice president, UK, Ireland & South Africa, Citrix says: “All organisations are under pressure to continue to do more with less. Consequently demand for virtual computing technologies has increased notably over the past year, driven by a realisation of the cost and flexibility benefits the technology can offer and the wider trend of consumerisation. Ergo’s offering is a compelling one and a welcome addition to the Irish ICT landscape.”
Virtual desktops are also a way for organisations to future proof their IT environment. Subsequent product updates are carried out centrally with none of the complexity associated with having to refresh PCs on a user-by-user basis. Security and licence compliance are easier to manage, while end-users benefit from a virtual desktop that is optimised for the applications that they need to access.
Ergo has a wide range of virtual desktop solutions, tailored to meet the needs of organisations at different stages in their refresh cycle. There is the option of a complete migration to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, or more incremental change starting with hosted applications.
