Software Business Ergo Acquires Micromail Firm

Software firm Ergo has acquired Cork company Micromail in a deal that will deliver a €17 million boost to its €35 turnover. The acquisition is Ergo’s third since 2010, when it bought Kildare based tech firm CDSoft. It acquired customer relationship management (CRM) specialist iSite last year for an undisclosed sum. John Purdy, CEO of Ergo, said the Micromail acquisition would allow the Dublin company to offer an end-to-end service for Microsoft products, both cloud-based and on-premise, covering licensing, architecture and implementation. “It will add large-scale software licensing and subscriptions to our business portfolio, and is a significant addition to our competencies,” said Purdy. Micromail will continue to trade under its own name, led by managing director Willy Kelly. The company has been trading since 1987 and employs 15 people. It sells volume licensing software to Microsoft resellers and channel partners in Ireland, as well as for multi-vendor licensing software, including Adobe, VMware, Kaspersky and AutoDesk.

Ergo employs 335 people, including 120 contractors. It has created 65 jobs in the past year, and will recruit 55 new staff by the end of the year. Close to a quarter of the company’s business is overseas. It recently secured contracts with British company Whitbread and US company Faxitron. Ergo has two spin-outs. Fenergo specializes in client lifecycle management software for the financial sector. Flowforma has developed a business process enablement tool that allows business analysts and consultants to build their own processes, rather than rely on software developers. Purdy established Ergo in 1993 with co-founder Tim Sheehy to sell printers.
