Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations seamlessly manages an organisations Sales, Resourcing, Project Management & Invoicing \/ Billing business processes into a single cloud-based scalable platform. This powerful platform empowers organisations to win more deals, accelerate project delivery & maximise utilization \/ profitability.<\/p>\n

Ergo adopted Dynamics 365 Project Operations to optimise its processes across the core business functions organisation wide. This case study explores the challenges Ergo faced, the solutions delivered through Dynamics 365 Project Operations & the transformative impact that this platform had on internal operations at Ergo.<\/p>\n

Challenge<\/h2>\n

As the Ergo organisation scaled, a number of key operational challenges around Sales Management, Resourcing, Project Management & Billing were identified. These challenges centered around having the ability to combine data from multiple sources, some gaps from a business process perspective & access to a holistic view of operational activities. These challenges led to a number of cumbersome manual processes & unnecessary inefficiencies.<\/p>\n

Solution<\/h2>\n

To address these challenges, the Ergo team implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations as a unified platform across our operational landscape. By integrating directly with our existing Dynamics 365 Sales implementation, the solution provided a consolidated view of sales pipelines & aligned them with resource planning activities & invoicing \/ billing processes.<\/p>\n

Project Management<\/h2>\n

All Ergo Project Management activities were centralised within the Dynamics 365 Project Operations platform, consolidating all Project Management activities such as project timelines, team roles, project tasks & invoicing. This centralisation enhanced visibility & control enabled better coordination between departments, improved responsiveness through real-time updates & access to a Programme level view of all projects. As a result, projects stayed on track & within budget more consistently.<\/p>\n

Project Resourcing<\/h2>\n

The platform’s powerful scheduling engine brought significant improvements to resource management, capacity planning & team projections. Team members were allocated more efficiently, minimising underutilisation & overbooking. By having access to real-time data, weekly resourcing calls became more streamlined & the team had the ability to proactively review, plan & adjust bookings based on customer & project demands.<\/p>\n

Time Tracking<\/h2>\n

For time tracking, Ergo introduced the Ergo Team Member model driven app which streamlined & automated the timesheet entry process. This greatly improved the accuracy & timeliness of billable & non-billable hour capture, while also ensuring that time data seamlessly rolled up to project financials. The improved data integrity contributed to better decision-making & more accurate financial reporting.<\/p>\n

Billing & Invoicing<\/h2>\n

In the area of billing & invoicing, the integration of project data enabled the generation of timely & accurate invoices. This not only improved cash flow & financial management but also increased customer satisfaction by delivering greater consistency & transparency in billing.<\/p>\n

In academic publishing, metadata such as titles, abstracts, keywords, author information, and subject categories are essential for indexing. High-quality metadata ensures that content is easily searchable by both researchers and aggregators.<\/p>\n<p>The second goal of the AI application was to efficiently and precisely analyse and identify all elements of the publishing content provided by publishers, facilitating a seamless conversion into XML format. XML, or eXtensible Markup Language, is used in the publishing industry to create structured content using tags. It helps in seamlessly repurposing content across various platforms, including print media, ebooks, and websites. The implementation of the new app aimed to reduce review time and enhance accuracy.<\/p>\n<h2>The <strong><i>Solution<\/i><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Deanta partnered with Ergo, a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider with deep expertise in cloud migration and deploying AI\/ML workloads on Azure. The company also highly valued Ergo\u2019s relationships with Microsoft and ability to navigate and utilise Microsoft\u2019s programmes available for customers.<\/p>\n<h3>Azure Landing Zone deployment<\/h3>\n<p>After the initial consultation, Ergo recommended deploying a Microsoft Azure Landing Zone, following Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework best practices. Stakeholders across Deanta participated in in-depth solution architecture workshops to ensure alignment on requirements and design principles. Security and reliability were paramount for this project, which was assured by Ergo\u2019s implementation of measures such as role-based access control, MFA for privileged roles, separation between production and non-production workloads, as well as redundancy for business-critical workloads to guarantee availability in the event of a failure. To optimise costs, budget and resource management controls were introduced.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the new Landing Zone not only supported the current AI initiative but also laid the foundation and simplified future AI-project delivery by establishing governance, security, and operational configurations.<\/p>\n<h3>Element Prediction application<\/h3>\n<p>Following the successful deployment of the Landing Zone, Ergo and Analytics Engines, Ergo\u2019s partner and a leading provider of AI and data-driven solutions, conducted a series of strategic workshops with Deanta. These sessions helped to identify AI use cases aligned with Deanta\u2019s business goals and data landscape to further fine-tune the initial request.<\/p>\n<p>The result was the development and deployment of the <strong>Element Prediction application<\/strong>, leveraging Azure OpenAI services. Azure OpenAI was chosen for its robust governance and security controls, combined with access to advanced LLM models and ability to customise them for specific business needs. The new solution was designed to enhance content structuring and metadata extraction by applying predictive analytics and natural language processing.<\/p>\n<p>The Element Prediction application leverages a modular pipeline that processes Deanta\u2019s DOCX manuscripts for metadata element assignment. At its core, the application harnesses GPT-4o’s vision analysis capabilities via Azure OpenAI, creating a foundation for comprehensive document understanding and metadata extraction.<\/p>\n<p>The implementation features an engineered prompt that maximises the model’s effectiveness in recognising and classifying document elements while understanding their contextual relationships. This approach enables the system to handle complex document structures with precision, automatically identifying and categorising diverse content types including mathematical equations, multilingual text, footnotes and code blocks.<\/p>\n<p>The application delivered results with over <strong>90% accuracy and precision<\/strong>, a substantial improvement over the previous 60% accuracy benchmark, and processing time of<strong>~20 seconds per document page.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This automated application transformed the document metadata identification and assignment process, dramatically reducing manual intervention while maintaining quality standards. To enhance their operational efficiency and improve their ability to manage and respond to reports of animal welfare issues, the ISPCA partnered with Ergo. ISPCA were considering Salesforce when Ergo stepped in and assisted the ISPCA in modernising their reporting processes through the integration of Microsoft Dynamics 365, facilitating a digital transformation that significantly improves the ISPCA’s capacity to fulfil their mission of preventing animal cruelty.<\/p>\n<h2>The <strong><i>Challenge<\/i><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The biggest challenge for the ISPCA was managing the high volume and complexity of calls and cases they received annually. Prior to Ergo’s proposed solution, the ISPCA handled between 10,000 to 15,000 animal welfare calls on their National Helpline each year, with approximately 3,000 of these calls being passed to their team of dedicated inspectors who enforce animal health and welfare laws across Ireland. The ISPCA needed to automate their existing system and improve the process of vehicle checks for their fleet, which was previously done manually, to further enhance efficiency.<\/p>\n<h2>The <strong><i>Solution<\/i><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The project started in 2023. Ergo dedicated considerable time and effort to thoroughly understand ISPCA\u2019s operations and business processes. During the initial discovery phase, Ergo collaborated closely with the ISPCA CEO, senior Inspector, and key stakeholders to gather all necessary requirements. The Ergo team, consisting of a Business Analyst (BA), Project Manager (PM), Solution Architect (SA), developers, and QA specialists, suggested an iterative approach and outlined a project plan within a DevOps framework, including test plans and processes.<\/p>\n<p>Phase 1 delivery featured two User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phases and additional change request gathering. Once ISPCA confirmed their satisfaction, Ergo provided an out-of-the-box (OOTB) migration, including data cleaning and transformation, from their legacy “ThankQ” on-premises system to a modern cloud-based solution.<\/p>\n<p>Ergo successfully delivered a tailored solution that transformed ISPCA\u2019s calls and case management systems within a customised Field Service application. This implementation once operational will benefit Inspectors involved in legal cases. With the new automated system, files and pictures can be autogenerated and prepared in real-time, ensuring more accurate data and evidence for legal teams.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the partnership and the new system, <strong>Conor Dowling, Chief Inspector of the ISPCA said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe modernisation of our internal processes is having a huge impact on our ability to achieve our objective of preventing cruelty to animals. our new system allows for a more accurate and effective reporting mechanism that gives time back to our staff to carry out our core goals.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWe are now able to manage and allocate our resources more efficiently, and we wish to thank Ergo for partnering with us on this exciting development.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>By leveraging Dynamics 365 Field Service, the scheduling of vehicle checks for inspectors’ fleets was significantly improved, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness. The solution extended Field Service capabilities to perform vehicle reviews, ensuring that each company vehicle received necessary servicing. This functionality was accessible on mobile devices, enabling inspectors to conduct and record checks seamlessly in the field.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>As a result of Ergo’s innovative and tailored solution, the ISPCA will be able to significantly improve their operational efficiency, data accuracy, and resource allocation. The new system will enable the ISPCA to better manage and respond to the thousands of calls and cases they receive each year, as well as to automate and streamline their vehicle checks.<\/p>\n<p>By partnering with Ergo, the ISPCA has achieved a digital transformation that supports their mission of preventing animal cruelty and promoting animal welfare in Ireland. AIB entered into a joint venture agreement with Great-West Lifeco to provide a combined life and pensions offering to their customers. AIB is Ireland’s largest banking institution, and this new venture presented a great opportunity for a modern cloud-native technology offering.<\/p>\n<p>AIB life is a regulated entity delivering financial products to retail customers. Confidence that their workplace services would be highly resilient, and their data fully secured was a key requirement of a partner for these services. As part of its mission to help customers prepare for retirement, protect their loved ones and invest in a flexible way, AIB life strives to deliver high-quality service in support of financial advisors, by building two innovative applications that would streamline workflow processes and enhance case-handling capabilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Sales Compliance QA App<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>2. Advice Support Unit App<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2>Sales Compliance QA App<\/h2>\n<h3>The <i><strong>Challenge<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n<p>AIB life conducts \u201cquality reviews\u201d as a core component of its internal control framework, ensuring that its sales processes comply with regulatory standards and customer expectations. However, with no solutions available in the market or out-of-the-box within core administration platform, the process for managing these reviews would be manual and time-consuming. AIB life needed a more efficient and reliable way to create, assign and track the quality checks for each case, as well as to generate reports and insights on the outcomes of the reviews.<\/p>\n<h3>The <i><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n<p>Ergo collaborated with AIB life to develop an application that would provide a workflow and case management tool to enable these quality reviews. The solution was built using the Microsoft Power Platform, a low-code, rapid development tool that is highly agile and capable of meeting diverse business needs. The Sales Compliance QA App leveraged a model-driven app and Power Automate to create specific checks depending on the case type. Ergo also implemented an Azure dataflow to trigger cases from further upstream in the sales process into the app, stored in the AIB life Data platform.<\/p>\n<p>The app allowed administrators to design templates for reviewing the new business cases, with customised checks for various kinds of cases, ranging across product types and customer circumstances. These checks could include validating the investment strategy, the suitability of the product, or the documentation of the customer’s needs and preferences.<\/p>\n<p>The app also enabled users to add notes and commentary to the case under a timeline and assigned different levels of user access and approval based on a hierarchy of roles and user types. An outcome would be assigned to each case reviewed, and the case could be marked as completed with a full audit trail available. The app also provided scalability and user-centricity, allowing AIB life to self-generate new templates when they needed to apply new or additional checks that were not pre-configured at the time of building the app.<\/p>\n<h3>The <strong><i>Impact<\/i><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The app introduced efficiency and reliability in delivering fit for purpose quality reviews to support AIB life’s internal control framework and to protect the interests of customers. The Advice Support Unit was using manual processes that were inefficient, and difficult to operate. There was a lack of visibility, traceability, and automation, resulting in manual work, delays, and rework. AIB life needed a modern and scalable solution that would enable the Support Unit to manage and resolve complex cases more effectively and efficiently.<\/p>\n<h3>The <i><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n<p>Ergo developed an application that provides a platform for managing and monitoring complex cases. The application consisted of two components: an app for the AIB life staff and an app for the AIB Advisors. The application was also built using the Microsoft Power Platform and integrated with the AIB life Data platform.<\/p>\n<p>The first component is an app for the AIB life staff, that enables the team\u2019s management to allocate cases and view the progress of all cases. The app also allows staff to record the quality and completeness of each case and request additional information if needed.<\/p>\n<p>The second component is an app that enables the AIB Advisor to check the status of their case review and communicate with the AIB life staff member in charge of their case through the system. The app also provides different users with the option to assign a prioritisation to the case. This is augmented with the capability to link cases together, so that the AIB life team can review the previous cases with the same references.<\/p>\n<h3>The <strong><i>Impact<\/i><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The application enables efficiency and transparency of the case document creation process for staff. It eliminates the need for using manual processes for handling the complexity involved in the process. Further, it provides a secure communication channel between the AIB life staff and AIB Advisors. an innovate healthcare services provider offering sustainable weight loss with a medically-led comprehensive program involving doctors, dietitians, nurses and health coaches.<\/p>\n<p>In order to provide this service to their customers, Beyondbmi developed a custom digital platform that provides program access to their users including electronic health records, and with access by the medical professionals to interact their patients efficiently.\u202f All of this can be done from the comfort of the users\u2019 home, making it accessible to even those in remote locations or with limited mobility.<\/p>\n<p>Although Beyondbmi had already setup an AWS platform, they were looking to ensure that this platform could meet AWS best practices, based on the AWS Well-Architected framework. This was important to Beyondbmi to ensure that their platform was secure, reliable, performant, cost efficient, and sustainable. And to do this, they needed a partner to help them on their journey.<\/p>\n<h2>The <em><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>The Beyondbmi platform was reviewed, re-designed and deployed by Ergo following AWS Well-Architected principles as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Operational excellence: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The platform was designed with Terraform Infrastructure as code to improve consistency, eliminate configuration drift and provide a more stable and scalable environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Security:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In way of security controls, Ergo implemented an array of AWS services such as AWS IAM, Guard Duty, Inspector, Shield, Network Firewalls, Key management, Certificate manager, Backup, as well as other services to ensure the Beyondbmi platform was secure for its users and customers, meeting strict regulatory control standards.<\/li>\n<li>With the implementation of AWS Control tower, a landing zone was deployed to ensure best practices were met for access, security, compliance and account structure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reliability: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In relation to availability, this environment was deployed across multiple availability zones based within Ireland, offering protection from natural disasters and potential availability zone issues.\u202f In addition, this solution is backed up utilizing Veeam backup and replication software.<\/li>\n<li>The native AWS Backup platform was utilized to provide granular backup and restore capability for critical systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Performance Efficiency: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leveraging the likes of AWS Cloudwatch for capacity and performance management takes the guesswork out of ensuring that the infrastructure is there to meet application demands, even during peak demand periods.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, using Lambda server less functions to avoid the overhead of lifecycle managing full virtual machines has delivered excellent efficiency within the Beyondbmi platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost Optimization:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ergo implemented AWS cost explorer to monitor for zombie assets, unattached volumes, and to look for right-sizing opportunities and to help advise on when it may be appropriate to leverage AWS reserved instances or savings plans to drive down overall total cost of operating within AWS. This is constantly monitored as part of the Ergo managed service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sustainability: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ergo leverage the AWS carbon footprint tool to help Beyond BMI in monitoring their impact on the environment and how simple changes can make a major impact on their sustainability goals. This solution is often tied in with cost optimization, where rightsizing of workloads, and retirement of zombie assets can also reduce power consumption, and hence aid in driving a sustainable IT platform for Beyondbmi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of this is wrapped up within an Ergo managed service, providing ongoing support, change management and maintenance of the Beyond BMI platform.<\/p>\n<h2>The <em><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>The benefits achieved were as follows,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A more secure platform ensuring the protection of critical data for the organization and their clients as well as meeting strict regulatory standards.<\/li>\n<li>With the use of infrastructure as code where feasible, Beyondbmi have been able to reduce the chance of human error in the deployment of various services within the Beyondbmi platform, providing a more consistent and reliable platform.<\/li>\n<li>Leveraging the power of the AWS Cloudwatch platform has provided Beyondbmi with the ability to scale on demand, responding faster to business needs<\/li>\n<li>Reduced costs of running the platform via the deployment of AWS cost explorer resulting in right-sizing and removal of zombie assets.<\/li>\n<li>Visibility into the sustainability of the Beyondbmi platform via the AWS carbon footprint tool \">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col col-12 col-lg-10 offset-lg-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>The <em><strong>Challenge<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Mediolanum International Funds Limited (MIFL) is the Irish asset management company of the Mediolanum Banking Group. The Irish business has over \u20ac58 billion assets and more than 60 funds under management. Over one million clients trust their investments to 5,600 financial advisors in Italy, Spain, and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Headquartered in Dublin with 160 employees, Mediolanum International Funds has forged a reputation for focusing on its investors\u2019 needs, targeting the highest quality standards for their investment services. On a growth trajectory, with assets under management expected to rise both from captive and non-captive distribution, the company identified leading-edge technology as essential for scale and driving innovation around products and client service delivery.<em> \u201cWe focus on outcomes as an organisation and wanted to become more efficient in our execution and delivery,\u201d said Barry Noonan, Chief Information Officer. \u201cWe wanted a platform that could scale and grow as our business skills grow, from week to week, and year to year.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ergo had partnered with Mediolanum on its first foray into the cloud with modern workplace tools like Microsoft 365 and some infrastructure on Azure, which was significantly scaled up when remote working became the \u2018new normal\u2019 during the pandemic. This included moving a DR (Disaster Recovery) plan from a data center to Azure. The experience fed an appetite for becoming a cloud-first company and the company went to tender for a program of work based around Azure. Once again, Ergo was chosen to be the partner. \u201c<em>We’ve taken the opportunity to reimagine our services for the cloud,\u201d<\/em> said Noonan.<em> \u201cOur goal was to make sure that we do it the right way, holistically across the entire stack, and that’s where Ergo brings the secret sauce.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>The <em><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<div class=\"survey\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>To succeed at such a large-scale transformation project, Ergo drew on all its Microsoft competencies, from hard-earned certification as an Azure Migration Specialist and Azure Expert Managed Service Provider (MSP), to having seven Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs) in the team, the highest skills accreditation Microsoft awards. Among the first pieces of work was moving Mediolanum from a file share environment to OneDrive, using Azure Rights Management to protect files across multiple devices with encryption, identity, and authorization policies. Always-on monitoring and threat mitigation comes from Azure DDoS Protection. Advanced security is a major challenge for every financial services company and Mediolanum is no exception. Barry Noonan saw Azure as a way to fast-track a multi-region approach.<\/p>\n<p>Azure Sentinel was chosen as the SIEM (Security Information and Event Manager) platform, which uses built-in AI to analyze large volumes of data across Mediolanum\u2019s Azure footprint and is integrated with MDR (Managed Detection Response) defenses. At the same time, Ergo moved device and service management from Microsoft System Center to Intune, which has made configuration much faster and easier. Similarly, Azure App Service is now used to create new applications across the enterprise, much quicker than spinning them up on virtual machines. SQL-as-a-Service (SQLaaS) was implemented to enable the company\u2019s development team to work much more efficiently in the new environment. Azure Bastion is used to connect to a virtual machine securely inside Azure without exposing Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and Secure Shell Protocol (SSH) ports to the outside world.<\/p>\n<p>To advance Mediolanum\u2019s ambition to become more data-driven, a new data warehouse was enabled by Azure Data Factory, a fully managed, serverless data integration service, with Azure Event Hubs used for streaming data and ingestion. Having such a developed data platform, where flows and streams are monitored by Sentinel, prompted Mediolanum to close down its traditional data center and entrust everything to Azure, run out of three Microsoft data centers for added resilience and performance. Ergo also implemented Azure Virtual Desktops for Mediolanum\u2019s team of twenty developers, and as a DR solution for the entire enterprise. The desktop virtualization solution makes it easier to configure and manage laptops for power users, as well as ensuring business continuity for everyone else in the event of a disaster. An automation template framework was set up by Ergo to make device configuration a self-service process.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content margin-top\">\n<h2 class=\"wrapper\">The <em><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Barry Noonan talks about cloud immediacy being a big benefit to a company like Mediolanum, and how working with Ergo and Microsoft in Azure has made IT much more dynamic. It\u2019s not just the self-service ability to spin up a virtual machine in 15 minutes \u2013 something that took days in the old world \u2013 but the ability to bring solutions to the business more quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Part of this is what he calls Azure\u2019s \u2018cookie cutter\u2019 capability.\u00a0<em>\u201cIt’s repeatable, it’s automatically backed up, patched, and slotted securely into our wider ecosystem. We can do things at scale now, because Ergo provides the original thinking and commoditizes it in code that we can use and reuse, over and over again.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He compares it to traditional on-premises data center infrastructure where a lot of manual work delivers little business value. <em>\u201cWe reimagined our solutions in a cloud-based universe where we spend a lot more time analyzing the data and adding business value,\u201d<\/em> said Noonan.<\/p>\n<p>Another benefit is better visibility of costs.\u00a0<em>\u201cRunning everything in Azure helps us with our budgeting, our planning and the transparency around our cost base,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>he said.\u00a0<em>\u201cI’m able to actively manage my costs and know where my spend is at all times, which means I can give my developers freer rein when I need to, which I would not have been able to do under a more traditional model.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ergo has become a valued partner for Mediolanum as it enters an aggressive period of growth. Dialogue between the two companies is continuous: security and project teams meet weekly, while quarterly business reviews look at the overarching managed service that Ergo provides. The retailer had been in pursuit of better BI (Business Intelligence), moving from Excel spreadsheets to an early iteration of Power BI but still feeling there were untapped insights that could benefit the business. The goal was to be able to move from descriptive analytics, understanding historical data, to a more predictive model, where key insights could be used to drive more critical business decisions. Power BI enables everyone at every level of an organization to make confident decisions using up-to-the-minute analytics. An issue with McCauley\u2019s initial deployment is that the environment was populated with multiple user reports with similar names, creating confusion and repetition. Ergo was brought in to clean it up and take the business to a new level of data-driven decision-making.<\/p>\n<h2>The <em><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>First, Ergo worked with McCauley to improve the existing suite of reports. The company uses Microsoft Dynamics Nav as its ERP system, a single source of transactional data that Ergo looked to access more easily using Power BI functionality. The goal was to analyze KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for a better understanding of profits, margins and stock levels. These insights are then shared with key users through standardized reports shared via Power BI Apps. The way Microsoft enables data analysis in the cloud reflects the big change in BI, the move to ELT (Extract\/Load\/Transform) instead of ETL, where the data transformation is carried out at the target destination. Essentially, the data flow in Power BI cleans the data within the cloud, significantly reducing the time to insights and helping organizations bypass lengthy data warehouse projects. Consistency, compliance and best practice governance are embedded in Ergo BI projects, with policies put in place to ensure employees adhere to strict regulatory requirements around data. This will become more important for McCauley as it opens up Power BI access to regional managers, store managers and reps. The plan is that they will all be able to log in and directly access the reports they need.<\/p>\n<h2>The <em><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Ergo\u2019s data analysts describe their work as shaping the data in the background so that Power BI\u2019s data visualization tools can share insights in the foreground. The difference to McCauley\u2019s management team has been profound. \u201cWe always had a broad understanding of what drove sales and success for our stores, but Ergo\u2019s work around Power BI has given us much more insight and granular detail,\u201d said Tony McEntee, Chief Executive at McCauley Health & Beauty.<\/p>\n<p>McCauley is now starting to see a faster time to insights from sales transaction tables that have generated 23 million rows of data since 2017. A report for a weekly meeting, for example, that used to take a day is now generated within five minutes. The old way relied on manual intervention in Excel, one of several steps that was eradicated as Ergo systemized the process.<\/p>\n<p>By cleaning the data and avoiding duplication, Ergo has consolidated the number of active reports down from 25 to five and brought McCauley into line with best practice visualization. By leveraging interactive functionality and smart filtering, reports have a standardized look and feel, making them more familiar to people who may only use them intermittently.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest win, however, has been the advanced intelligence Power BI now delivers, with year-on-year time intelligence around seasonal trends, and behavioral analysis on buying habits that give the retailer a better understanding of customers. Basket analysis digs down into the type of products sold in different stores at different times of the day, enabling the business to make smart data-driven decisions about how to position products and promotions.<\/p>\n<p>Best of all, Ergo has provided the business with a foundation for ongoing Power BI optimization. For any business in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods, being able to slice-and-dice data is critical. The next phase will be to tap into data sources from a new online portal and accurately measure the impact it has on revenue and margins.<\/p>\n<p>Tony McEntee is seeing a roadmap where Power BI can play an even more significant role in business planning. \u201cThe work Ergo has carried out has allowed us to be a lot more proactive in planning for the future rather than just reporting the past. We now have a foundation to take it to the next level and make business decision making even more With Technology –<em><strong> HSE Lighthouse Project<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<h3>The <strong>Challenge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Providing Individualised Services and Care in Epilepsy (PISCES) is a Lighthouse Project with a number of partners including HSE, eHealth Ireland, Epilepsy Ireland, RCSI and Beaumont. In the past there was no way for patients, academics or clinicians around Ireland to record their medical details electronically which created numerous problems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"survey\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<h3>The <strong>Solution<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The PISCES Project is about using technologies to promote a model of precision, proactive and personalised healthcare for the more than 40,000 people with epilepsy across Ireland. The solution developed is an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and Patient Portal App focused exclusively on the needs of epilepsy patients.<\/p>\n<p>The patient portal is a mobile-first, cloud-based solution. No matter where care is delivered, information can be collected, added to the care record and accessed by the care team regardless of geographic location or care setting. The project also involves the development of a BI solution which enables clinicians to securely use aggregated patient data to analyse and gather insights for the wider patient community to inform future care and population health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content margin-top\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<p>Technology has allowed\u00a0patient data to\u00a0be examined to gain insights about epilepsy risk factors, response to treatment, patient needs and their use of epilepsy services.
